SUMMARY:Baby Quilt Relay 2026
DESCRIPTION:Our annual Community Outreach Relay for baby quilts will be held on Saturday\, February 21 at the FDC. Come help the Community Outreach Wednesday Group sew and complete the baby quilts. The doors of the Florence Douglas Center will open at 9:30 am for set up. Join us anytime until we close at 3:00 pm.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere will be kits on hand. If you don’t want to sew\, there are other steps in the process that you can help with:  \n\n\n\n• Pressing the fabric• Sandwiching tops with batting and backing• Pinning• Sewing around the edges (inside out)• Turning out• Tying with yarn• Topstitching• Sewing labels on \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will have 2-3 ironing boards and irons set up. Bring your machines and cords and white or beige thread to sew with. We will have some straight pins\, but you can bring your own\, if you prefer. Those who wish to tie should bring a large eye needle\, curved needle\, or upholstery needle. We will have only a few on hand. We have yarn for tying.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLunch and Desserts will be provided. Bring your own beverages.  \n\n\n\nWe hope to see you there for fun\, fellowship\, and a few prizes!

DESCRIPTION:Second of a two-part class where Mary demonstrates the Seminole piecing techniques to create intricate colorful strips of fabric in decorative bands that can be used on garments or quilts. Seminole Piecing is based on the work of the Native American Seminole tribe in Gergia and southern Florida. \n\n\n\nParticipants are asked to bring their fabric: a focus fabric that looks good at 1″ finished\, a supporting fabric that reads solid\, and the background fabric to compliment or contrast. Also bring your machine and usual sewing supplies. Once you conquer the basic sample in the first session\, you can challenge yourself with a design that has more pieces in the second session. \n\n\n\nClasses are after the September and October general membership meetings from 12 to 3pm and are free for members.

Only members who have enrolled for the class are allowed at the center during the class. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom Marjan Kluepfel’s website: Mini Landscape Class – In this class you will learn to create a small landscape wall quilt (suitable for framing) using the following techniques: free motion machine embroidery\, thread painting\, bobbin drawing\, couching\, use of Sulky Solvy to make trees and shrubs\, foiling\, embellishing with Angelina fibers and Tyvek. Emphasis is on learning the techniques. Small landscape patterns will be provided to practice on.
