Linda Wagner’s “Ruler/Mat Multi-Pocketed Tote Bag” Class

Did you ever think you would be able to have that one bag pattern that can carry all those supplies you need for a class? (Except the sewing machine, of course…) You need cutting mats, rotary cutters, square rulers, fussy cutting rulers, loooooong rulers… so much stuff that you end up looking like a pack mule just to get in the door!

We hope to alleviate that with the help of Linda Wagner, who will be teaching her bag class to us on Saturday 6/18/22. This bag can tote rulers that are 24-in! There are outside pockets, inside pockets, and enough room inside for so many items we can’t catalog them here. You know what though… here is what Linda carries in hers, and this is JUST in the POCKETS:
6-1/2 x 24-1/2 ruler
6 x 18 ruler
6-1/2 x 12 ruler
3-1/2 x 12-1/2 ruler
3-1/2 x 18 rule
Strip-off ruler
Blades ruler
Bonnie Hunter Essential Triangle tool
Easy Companion Angle
Point trimmer
Scrapmaster
Corner cutter
Rotary cutter
Tube Ruler
6-1/2 square
4-1/2 square
Etc., etc., etc., plus you can carry your rotary cutting mats

Fee: $40 for VPQG members

As this is an outside teacher we have a minimum requirement for 15 students to make the class “a go.” Sign up before June, as there will be a bit of homework before the class, and Linda will be at the June General meeting tell us all about it. Tell your friends, it will only be an additional $5 for non-members.

***Please note***
Pattern is a separate $10 fee and payable directly to Linda in June.

Members can also add this event to their Facebook calendar.

“Exploding Heart” Quilt Class (Part 2)

If you have been on Pinterest or FB in in the past year it is likely you have seen this pattern by Laura Piland of “Slice of Pi Designs.” She is seeing great success – partnered now with FreeSpirit Fabrics for kits with Kaffe Fassett Collective, and also with Missouri Star, who did a tutorial recently. This will be our class for May 2022. This will be a multiple session class. Both sessions are necessary for the class, plus a bit of “homework” beforehand so we can all progress together.

Sessions will be:
May 7th from 12-3pm (AFTER the General meeting)
May 21st from 9am to 3pm

Fee is $15 for members and includes pattern.

BONUS!!!! The pattern size has been adapted for this class and I will be showing it in two sizes: the usual 72×72 or a smaller 45×45. (Jenny Doan can’t give you that…)

Members can also add this event to their Facebook calendar.

December 2022 General Membership Meeting & Holiday Party

December 3, 2022 @ 10:00 am 3:00 pm

Hello Piecemakers!

The VPQG Board will be hosting a Holiday Luncheon after the December 3rd meeting. We will hold a brief business meeting, draw the winning ticket to the 2022 Opportunity Quilt “Blooming Brilliance”, and then adjourn for a tasty meal together and some activities and games.

There will be games, door prizes, and a “make & take” activity for everyone.

You will be helping to decorate the tables with a *CHALLENGE* – put your crafting skills to work to create the tablescape decor! There will be prizes…

We have a styrofoam cone for you to fashion into a holiday tree. It is approximately 2.75″ x 7.25″ in dimension. What will you do with yours? Fabric? Moss? Ribbons? Paint and pompoms? It’s up to you how to finish it up.

We ask that you make it so it can stand up – they already have flat bottoms, so just make sure it doesn’t fall over and stays upright on the table for judging. You are welcome to sit it on a base if you’d like to raise it a bit higher but please know you will be judged on the decoration and not how high it is. 🙂

Write your name on the bottom of the stryo cone so we know whose is whose.

A lot of you at the November meeting picked up your tree, so if you do not have yours, contact Kris to get yours.

Dress in your festive gear and join your quilting friends for some camaraderie and fun!

Please note the change in the usual schedule to accommodate this event:

  • 10:00 am – Doors to FDC will open for socializing before the business meeting.
  • 11:00 am – Business meeting and 2022 Opp Quilt Ticket drawing
  • 11:30 am – Activities begin
  • 12:00 pm – Lunch is served

Please RSVP to the luncheon before Wednesday, 11/23. This is to ensure an accurate headcount for catering and activities supplies. RSVP by responding to this email!

On behalf of the Board, we look forward to seeing you and your creations!
~Kris

~*~*~
We will mask during the meeting and during the make and take crafts, as we will be in close proximity, and unmasking while actively eating and drinking.

PLEASE NOTE: We are continuing our requirements (as voted by the VPQG Executive Board) for attendees to our meetings, classes, and events to be vaccinated for Covid-19. Anyone inside the building for our rental periods must have proof they are fully vaccinated, and post-14 days from their last injection. As voted on by the Executive Board 10/7/22, while we encourage masking at all times when meeting in person, we will allow for participants to remain unmasked where we remain 6-ft apart during classes and workshops. Out of an abundance of caution we will remain masked during General meetings, as we are in closer proximity than a 6-ft distance. We will remain masked for meetings unless actively eating or drinking while adequately spaced. This is a mask over the nose and mouth, and not a face shield.

As this is part of the operation of the Guild, this discussion and vote occurs at the Executive Board Meeting and the topic will not be part of the General meeting.  Until the requirement is rescinded, not masking properly is considered a disruption and you may be asked to leave.

If you have not already been to one of our meetings or events (since 9/2021) at the FDC please send a copy of your CDC vaccination record for COVID-19 or have it ready in hand or on your phone before you enter the building.

Kim Brownell’s “Sunrise / Sunset” Quilted Jigsaw Puzzle Technique ($25)

November 19, 2022 @ 9:00 am 3:00 pm

Kim Brownell, the Wacky Doodle Quilter, will be showing us her Quilted Jigsaw Puzzle Technique in the “Sunrise/Sunset” pattern. We will be making this 22″ x 26” wall hanging. It is very much like piecing together a jigsaw puzzle. A raw-edge fusible applique is used leaving a negative space between each piece, making a wonderful stained glass look. This is a fun class for both beginner and experienced quilters.

Fee: $25 for Members, $30 for non-members.

Each participant will also need to purchase her $25 kit on the day of class. Each kit includes her paper pattern, the pre-traced black background, and fusible web.

You will need to bring a variety of fabrics in the colors you want for the sky, sun, and water sections. It’s a great stashbuster for sure!

Also needed are a pair of sharp scissors for fussy cutting, you iron/pressing mat, an ultra-fine Sharpie, and glue for tacking down your fabrics (Roxanne Baste It Glue is preferred because of the needle-like barrel for exact placement in thin lines.)

No sewing will be done in class, so there is no need to bring your machine. Topstitching will be finished on your own at your own pace.

We are holding this as a joint class with Carquinez Strait Stitchers.

Register and claim your space!
